Those concrete blocks are 8 inches by 16 inches. If you were building a 20X50 building with 8 foot walls then you would need approximately 1,260 blocks. That does not factor in any windows, doors or garage doors. It also did not factor in the mortar gaps therefore the additional blocks can count as your extra 10% that you are suppose to get for breakage.
Here is how the math worked for that.
50 ft walls X12 inches divided by 16inches =37.5 blocks X 2 walls= 75 blocks
20 ft walls X 12 inches divided by 16inches=15 blocks X 2 walls=30 blocks
8 foot high walls X 12 inches divided by 8 inch blocks= 12 blocks high
75 + 30=105 blocks per layer
105 X 12 layers = 1,260 blocks
