Hi there everyone,
Last weekend I was over at my store going through the litany of notes that had been left for me after having been gone that entire week, a real fun time indeed. While going through them, I was approached by a shopper looking for help picking a finish of hardwood flooring. I followed behind her and watched her turn down the laminate aisle instead of the aisle where we keep our hardwood flooring. She started gazing about at the different styles and I could see the cogs moving inside her head trying to figure out which she liked more...
I then politely mentioned that perhaps we had taken a wrong turn and that the hardwood floors are another aisle over. With a slight mark of embarrassment about her, she said "oh goodness, I thought these were real wood for a second!" We had a good laugh about it for a moment, and I remarked about how manufacturers really are making the laminates so life-like these days. I took this opportunity to ask her if laminate might be an option for her project, and we proceeded to look through the samples together.
We pulled out what must have been 20 different planks and set them onto the floor in the largest, most mish-mashed display you could imagine. We both took a few steps back and I said "Now tell me honestly, can you tell that they're not real wood from this angle?"
It was a fun little interaction and lead to what I would like to hope is a very happy shopper who is now a bit more informed about the different options available to her. But it sparked a question in my mind that I'm curious how all you Mr. Jay fans feel...
The Laminate Test:
Have you ever looked at a laminate floor; be it at a friends house, a display at our store or in a magazine, and thought...wow, you mean that's not a real wood floor?
I'm curious to see if any of you have the keen eye to immediately tell, or if they really have made such great advancements that you really have a tough time distinguishing.
Let me know and perhaps we can discuss certain styles or colors that you all think really stand out. Can't wait to hear from you all!
Looking at the three pictures that I've posted on here...can any of you tell me which of them are actually real hardwood? Let's see how savvy you are with your flooring! Reply back in the comment with your answers = )
