Prehung interior door installation- off size door

I am looking to install a prehung door in my basement, but the measurements are 35 5/8in wide by 77 3/8in tall - these measurements are at the smallest points in the space I am looking to hang the door in - so any suggestions on what would be my best option, as all the doors I looked at were 80 inches tall.  Also, a "how to" installation video or link would be GREATLY appreciated.

Welcome to the community - we are glad you joined us.

If the measurements in your post are for the "rough" opening then you may have to adjust the opening to fit the door.

When framing a pre-hung door - the standard is to make the rough opening is two inches wider and two inches higher than the size of the door. So, for a framed 32-inch door, the rough opening would be 34 inches wide. The standard rough opening height is 82 inches. You may have to adjust the top part of the frame (if possible) by moving up the header.  If that is not possible then you may have to trim some of the bottom off the unit.

Keep in mind that hollow core doors need special instructions when cutting or adjusting the height.  One of our experts on the community has a great post on this at: Ingar.jpg

Hope this helps.
