I have 3 round exterior porch columns that have rot and termite damage. I would like to replace them with non-wood columns. What would be the best option? I'm not a DIYer so who should I contact to do the install? Does Home Depot offer this type of installation service? Thanks.

Hi Bamadude, this is Mike The Home Depot Answer Man.
Replacing the columns can be a tricky job as the porch roof must be supported while the columns are removed and replaced.
This requires placing a support under the roof, and raising slightly to assure the columns are at the correct height. You can replace one column at a time and move the support as you go along.
Newer columns have a steel center and a vinyl outer shell to look like the original wood.
Since you indicated you are not an experienced DIYER, I would hire a contractor for this job.
A DIYER with little experience could find himself in big trouble fast on a project like this. You don’t want to be replacing the columns and the roof.
Ask around for recommendations from friends and neighbors if you’re unsure who to hire.
Get a minimum of three quotes and check out the contractors with your local Better Business Bureau before you sign a contract. Make sure the contractor is licensed and insured.
Ask for references, and go and talk to the folks he has done work for in the past. This will go a long way in assuring you get a qualified contractor, and good repair job.
I hope this answers your question
