Blinking light in ceiling fan

I bought the ceiling fan at Home depot. I have standard bulbs in the light, 40 watts. It has been working for over a month now...all of a sudden, the light came on and started blinking...now it turns on and off constantly...I had to fiddle with the remote to get the fan to turn off also....for over a week it was unresponsive...any idea what it could be...

Re: Blinking light in ceiling fan

Hey bobvilla.

Its me again. After 15 years with The Home Depot, there is no problem that I have not faced at least a dozen times.

Sometimes with ceiling fans, over time any little wiggle or vibration can cause a wire nut to come loose, causing a short to occur. I will need you to take down the canopy cover, which is held on by 2 screws by the ceiling. When the remote transmitter is installed, it is such a tight fit, trying to tuck the wires and wire nuts up to get the canopy cover back on, that sometimes a wire nut will come loose. First thing to do is to kill the power.

You will need someone to hold a flashlight for you so you can see what you are doing. You will need to reconnect the wire nuts and make sure they are nice and tight. Before you put the canopy back up, turn the breaker back on and see if problem is solved. If the problem still exists then the short is somewhere it the fan. If this is the case then you will need to take the fan down and bring it back to the store and let us get you a new one.

Sorry for all the hassle. Hit me back here and let me know how things went.
