Hey guys,
I need to know how to build a queen size bed that is simple and cheap. I it to be about a foot off the floor so I can store stuff underneath. Nothing snazzy just simple.

Welcome smlozier!
My name is Christine and I work at The Home Depot in Atlanta. Building a bed is not only economical, it is a fun project! How wonderful will it be to say ‘Yes, I made that!’? So let’s get started!
Here is a list of the things you will need. The measurements are for a standard queen size bed which is 5 feet wide by 6.5 feet long. Make sure to measure you mattress first, just in case it is different.
2 two-by-four wooden boards measuring 5 feet long
2 two-by-four wooden boards measuring 6.5 feet long
3 two-by-four wooden boards measuring 4.5 feet long
Power drill
Power saw
Screwdriver
2 thick sheets of plywood measured 5 feet wide by 6.5 feet long
Blocks of wood, 6 inches tall by 5 inches wide for feet
Once you have everything on your list, it’s time to start building! Remember to be safe while operating power tools. Wearing protective eye wear is highly recommended.
Here is your step by step guild to building your brand new bed:
1. You should build the bed in the location where it will be located when it is done. Lay out the 2 five-foot boards and the 2 6.5 foot boards in a rectangle on the floor. Stand the boards up on their most narrow sides. Screw the 4 pieces together at the 4 corners.
2 Now you are going to create the top support system of the bed frame. For this part you are going to be working with the 3 4.5 foot boards. Starting at the bottom of your frame place one board, wide side down, 1.5 foot up from the bottom and nail each end to the base. Next, lay the second board flat on its wide side and nail it down 3.5 foot up from the bottom. Lastly, lay the last board down on its wide side and nail it 5 feet up from the bottom.
3 Then flip the frame over. If you would like additional support you can nail or screw in a large sheet of plywood to the measurements of the frame. Attach the legs to each corner of the frame on the bottom.
4 Flip the frame back over. Screw or nail the second sheet of plywood on top of the supporting boards. Make sure to secure it to each board as well as the frame boards along the edges.
That’s it!
Don’t forget to paint or stain your new bed. It will not only make it look really nice, it will keep it looking nice for years to come.
Good luck with your project!

Christine
