Outdoor chandeliers are definitely all the rage right now. Hanging one from the bough of your tree is a focal point for your outdoor dinner setting. Now you can make your very own with supplies from The Home Depot. Let’s get started!
- Round hanging coco basket
- 7 jelly jars (found in the lighting department)
- Tea lights (we used LED)
Step by Step Instructions:
Step one: After you have gathered all of your supplies take your coco basket and disassemble it. Take away the liner and unclip the chain. Hold on to the hook; we are going to use that later.
Step Two: Cut 3 equal pieces of twine. This is for the part that is going to hang from the tree. You will be folding these in half, so cut the twine twice as long as your desired length. With each piece, thread the twine through the basket and then tie in a knot. Make sure to have each piece of twice equally distributed around the basket, or it will be lopsided. After all three are tied on gather them at the top and tie them to the hook.
Step Three: Pour about 2” of sand in the bottom of each jar and then add a candle to each jar.
Step Four: Now we are going to hang our jars. For each jar, you are going to cut two pieces of twine of equal length. Take the first piece of twine and put it around the neck of the jar. Make sure the ends are even and then tie a knot. Now, take the other piece of twine and do the same thing and tie the knot on the opposite side of the jar. Now, you should have 4 strands of twine coming off of the jar. Continue to do this with all of your jars. We made the length of twine different for each jar making a tiered effect.
**From here on out, I would highly recommend hanging your project. It will be easier to work with and it will give you a better sense of what you are doing.
Step Five: Now that you have tied twine to all of your jars it’s time to hang them from your basket. Make sure to equally distribute them around the base so it will not be lopsided. We hung one from the middle as well to make it look fuller.
There you have it! An outdoor chandelier Home Depot style!
