Hi everyone this is Ricks Picks again. So many people come into my store looking for a "good" garden hose. I find them a good one but typically they are taken aback by the cost. Yes, some of the better quality hoses can cost you between $40 and $50 for a 50 to 100 foot hose. If that hose were to last you 15-20 years, wouldn't that be worth it!?!?!? I have hoses that I have had for the last 20 years and I am just now thinking of replacing them. The money spent was worth it when you have one or more of your hoses last that long.
Now for the other issue of hoses that kink. The cheaper hoses are usually the culprits here, but many times the operator is at fault as well. When you first get a garden hose, it is wrapped up for nice presentation. When you get it home what happen? You open up the package and unwrapp it only to find that the hose is in one big kind of spiral, right????? Now, unless you have some type of connection on the bib end and another on the accessory end that will allow the hose to turn, you are going to get a kink somewhere in your hose.
You can buy the combination unit which has both male and female connections or you can just buy the male connection. The male connection is the one that goes on all your accessories and the one that you will probably buy more of. The other advantage of the Quick Connect is that you will not have to thread and rethread the hose accessory ever again.
I have found that "Quick Connects" seem to solve this problem. I have been using Quick Connects for the last 20 years and I have not had an issue with hoses that kink. Granted, I don't buy cheap hoses, but if the pricier ones are not in your budget, using the Quick Connects is a great way to stretch your dollar when you buy a less expensive hose that may not be of the same quality.
When you do decide to purchase your Quick Connects, be sure to use the same type for all your hoses. Different models are not compatible with each other, I know, I tried it. All you get is a leak with water going all over your patio.
That is all there is to help eliminate kinks in your hose. Buying a higher quality hose helps too but, you have to use the cards you are dealt with and using the Quick Connects is a great way to help the inexpensive hose last longer.
This has been another of,
