How-To Make a Terra Cotta Nutcracker
Skill Level- Novice
Time- 2-4 hours (not including drying time)
Cost- $30- $50
Tools and Materials
- 5- 8” terra cotta pots
- 1- 12" terra cotta saucer
- 1 can Painter's Touch Apple Red spray paint
- 1 can Painter's Touch Brilliant Blue spray paint
- 1 can Painter's Touch Ivory spray paint
- 1 can Painter's Touch Gloss Black spray paint
- 1 tube Loctite 10 oz Landscape Block Adhesive
- 1 roll ScotchBlue Painters tape
- 1 Chalk gun
- Acrylic artist paint
Step 1: Using your spray paint, paint the saucer black, one terra cotta pot ivory, one red, one blue, 2 black. Allow to dry, and then apply a second coat.
Step 2: Once they are dry, paint the rim of the blue and red pot black with black spray paint. Apply painters tape so black paint doesn’t get on the main part of the pot.
Step 3: Using your acrylic paint, paint a face on the ivory pot. The pot should be right side up when you paint your face.
Step 4: On the red pot, paint the stitching of the jacket. Then, paint a belt on the black part.
Step 5: Now it’s time to build your tower. Start by placing your saucer on the ground.
Step 6: Then, using the landscape adhesive, glue a painted black pot, upside down, to the saucer.
Step 7: Next, glue the blue pot, right side up, to the black pot.
Step 8: Glue the red pot, upside down to the blue pot.
Step 9: Glue the ivory pot, right side up to the red pot.
Step 10: Lastly, glue the black pot, upside down to the ivory pot.
Put this little guy on your front porch and enjoy!

This looks like a summer project to me.
The only thing I would do different is that I would have to make him smaller. ![]()
