Bring on the greens! I have to say that I love this season! One of my favorite decorating elements of the holidays is the Kissing Ball. Tradition has it, that Kissing Balls were hung by the entry way of a home, as a sign of goodwill for all entering visitors.
During Victorian times, Kissing Balls were composed of holly boughs, fresh herbs and fruits. The ingredients were chosen for their symbolism and fragrance, not always for their beauty. Lavender and rosemary were often used to signify loyalty and devotion, mistletoe was also in the mix, which promoted the name “Kissing Ball”.
There is something just a bit magical about a Kissing Ball hanging on the door step of a home; the ribbon streamers blowing in the wind, the ornaments sparkling in the sun. To me it is an announcement that the holidays are here, and the people that dwell within embrace the season. Welcome the holidays, and your guests, hang a Kissing Ball outside your door. Goodwill to all, and enjoy every moment of your holiday season.
